Charles “Chick” Meehan

A Saint James graduate who gave back to the school in 30 years of service. In his tenure, he served as a teacher and interim headmaster along with serving ass the athletic director and coaching football and baseball. He had a 121-82-4 record as a football coach, which included a Washington County record 26-game winning streak. Named 1992 Washington County coach of the year.

Frank Linn
Treasurer
A Gettysburg, Pa. native, Linn played high school football at Delone Catholic. Former Kiwanis president. Wright Gardner Insurance agency and financial consultant. Assistant football coach at Smithsburg, working under legendary coach Carroll Reid. Driving force behind the start of Washington County Junior Football League. Chaired JayCees committee presenting Soap Box Derby and Junior Olympics.

Dwayne Freeman

Class of 2013 HOF Inductee
He starred in football and track at South Hagerstown before attending Montgomery College and the University of Tennessee to play football. He owned multiple track records at Suth and was a three-time state champion. He rushed for 1,500 yards and became a NJCAA first-team All-American on Montgomery, where he set reception and yardage records in the national championship game. He played for two years at Tennessee and appeared in two New Year’s Day bowl games. Eventually returned to South Hagerstown as a teacher and track coach and is presently the school’s athletic director.

Jim Kline

Class of 2013 HOF Inductee
A champion fisherman, who has won five Mr. Bass title, four Angler of the Year title and 15 Antietam Bassmasters club tournament wins. He has also qualified for 15 state championship tournaments, seven Mr. Bass tournaments and three tournament trail classic championship tournaments. He was also twice named Maryland Bass Federation Butch Ward Man of the Year and Conservation Man of the Year. An Army vet, serving from 1969-72, he has become known for his veteran advocacy and was the driving force behind Washington County’s Viet Nam Memorial. Kline, who graduated from Hagerstown Community College, worked as a correctional officer for 28 years and was an athlete in Washington County’s adult basketball, fast-pitch softball and flag football leagues.

Marty Lumm

Class of 2023 HOF Inductee
As a longtime advocate of Maugansville youth baseball, Lumm is the originator of the league’s Challenger Division program, providing a chance to play for special-needs children. Lumm spent 31 years as the director and coach for Challenger Little League, which his son Kevin – who was blind – was also a participant. The league never charged participation fees, uniforms or equipment while providing pizza parties and year-end awards banquets for its players. The league has a yearly game against the Hagerstown Suns, a former Single A minor league team. He also umpired youth baseball for 35 years and participated in the JFK50 ultramarathon, Marine Corp Marathon and Steamtown Marathon. He has also been an officer for the Maugansville Ruritan.

Bob Parasiliti

Class of 2022 HOF Inductee
An award-winning sportswriter, he culminated a 42 ½-year career when he retired from the Hagerstown Herald-Mail, where he worked 35 1/2 years. A Cleveland, Ohio native and graduate of Kent State, he covered a variety of local, regional and national sporting events, spending a major part of it covering Washington County. He was awarded for his work in Ohio and numerous times by the West Virginia and Maryland-Delaware and DC Press Associations. He covered a World Series, an AFC Championship and spent multiple years covering the Hagerstown Suns, University of Maryland, Shepherd University and West Virginia athletics along with Washington County high schools. His career started as a team manager for his high school and the Kent State basketball team. Parasiliti was a Heisman Trophy voter and was named 2017 Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches Media Person of the Year.

Julie Sanders

The Smithsburg graduate distinguished herself as a top performer in field events, setting records in shot put, discus and javelin. She remains the record holder in the three events for Hagerstown Community College, where she competed from 1985-87. She qualified for nationals in discus in 1986 and 1987, as well as indoor nationals for the shot put in 1987 and qualified in discus for the 1987 Penn Relays. She was a seven-time winner of Region XX events. She continued her career at Frostburg State, where set a school record in discus of 39.8 meters in 1989 while winning three events at Catonsville Community College meet. The throw still stands as third-best all-time for Frostburg. She qualified for the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championship meet and later became an assistant coach at Frostburg. She coached seven athletes to state championships at Smithsburg.

Stan Stouffer

Stouffer built a successful teaching and coaching career with his belief that both were an extension of education. Stouffer, a Army veteran, spent two successfully stints as Williamsport boys soccer coach before coming the school’s athletic director from 2007-12. He was on the sidelines from 1976-84 and returned from 1990-2003, accumulating a record of 231-107-7 with the Wildcats. He guided Williamsport to the 1979 Class C and the 1996 Class 1A state championships, which are two of the four boys soccer titles in Washington County history. A number of his former players have joined the coaching ranks. Stouffer is a South Hagerstown graduate, who went to receive degrees from Hagerstown Junior College, Shepherd College and Shippensburg University. He is also a former member of the Washington County Board of Education.

Mike Tesla

Class of 2019 HOF Inductee
A New York native and a huge soccer advocate, came Washington County as an assistant soccer coach at Williamsport under Stan Stouffer before his 20-year stint as South Hagerstown’s head boys soccer coach. The Rebels won a Tri-State, two Cumberland Valley Athletic League and two Monocacy Valley Athletic League titles under his tenure. He took over as South’s athletic director from 2000-16. Athletically, he played high school soccer before heading to Farmingdale (NY) Community College and James Madison University. Tesla is a fixture in the Maryland Youth Soccer Association and Hagerstown Soccer Club and is a regional director for the state soccer tournament. Washington County honored his service to soccer by naming he county tournament trophy the “Tesla Cup.”

Bill Sterner

Class of 2024 HOF Inductee
Sterner worked as a major figure in managing the sports programs at Hancock and Clear Spring, two of the smallest schools in Maryland. He served as athletic director for both schools, working to keep their athletic programs competitive and successful in an arena where they were dwarfed by small student populations. A Pittsburgh-area native, he came to the area as a volunteer coach for Hancock football. He joined the school’s faculty in 1983 and went of to become the head football coach, softball coach and athletic director twice. He is known for his ability reach students with support, guidance and tough love. He guided the Panthers to their first football playoff berth in 1986 and to the state softball semifinals in 1993. In 2018, he began a stint as Clear Spring’s athletic director until he retired.

Mark Weber

Class of 2004 HOF Inductee
A Williamsport High graduate who excelled in soccer and later golf. He was a star goalkeeper for Williamsport, recording shutout wins in the state semifinal and final to lead the Wildcats to a 1979 Class C title. He went on to star at Frostburg, where he set goalkeeping records and was name to All-State and All-Region teams. He played one season of pro indoor soccer. Turned to golf and became club professional at Beaver Creek Country Club. Weber has been inducted to the Frostburg and Washington County Golf Hall of Fames.
